Thing a day

I fell in love with freeform beading after many years of dabbling with all manner of media. My fascination with seed beads goes back to my childhood. My mom, a Cub Scout den mother, started me on a bead loom when I was about 8, so coming back to seed beads was like coming home. You can find more of my work at

Day 1 – Kumihimo Braid

A friend asked me if I could make a bracelet out of horsehair, and I said, “Sure,” having no idea whatsoever how I was going to go about it. After some research, it seemed like kumihimo would be the way to go, so this is my first attempt. I need to be much more meticulous about the way I prepare the hair so I don’t get all those little ends sticking out.IMG_1200
